As One Great Furnace Flamed


This time of year, I can’t help but think of the fiery images of Milton's Hell when I'm walking through the fallen leaves.

Of that inflamed sea he stood and called
His legions, Angel forms, who lay entranced
Thick as autumnal leaves that strew the brooks
